Paolo Giordano tells the story of Alice and Mattia, two people marked since childhood by traumatic events that leave them, like twin prime numbers, close to others but never quite touching. It's a slow, painful coming-of-age novel written with an almost mathematical precision (Giordano is a physicist by training), which makes the emotional fragility of the characters stand out even more.

What I learned
It made me understand how two people can genuinely care for each other and still be unable to truly be together, because of wounds they carried long before they ever met. It's not a comforting book, but it's honest, and Giordano's spare writing leaves a lot of room for the reader to fill in the gaps.
